Preamble

      Pathophysiology is a modern integrative biomedical science founded on basic and clinical research that is concerned with the mechanisms responsible for the initiation, development, and treatment of pathological processes in humans and animals.
      The International Society for Pathophysiology (ISP) was founded in the General Assembly of the participants of the Constituent Congress of Pathophysiology, 1991 in Moscow.
      The ISP is a non-governmental, non-profit organization uniting specialists of experimental physiology, clinical medicine and modern biology who work on the problems of human and animal pathophysiology.
      The ISP cooperates with related international scientific societies and associations.

 

I. Purpose

Article 1

      The International Society for Pathophysiology shall pursue the following objectives:

  1. to support research in pathophysiology;
  2. to promote international collaboration and exchange of scientific information and experience obtained from pathophysiological studies and related fields of medical research throughout the medical and scientific community;
  3. to support the teaching of pathophysiology and to develop ways to promote ISP goals, objectives, and accomplishments in the public media;
  4. and by these activities to contribute in cooperation with other scientific societies, to better health in humans and animals.

 

II. Functions

Article 2

      ISP shall perform the following functions:

  1. to establish relations and promote cooperation between scientific institutions and laboratories studying pathophysiological problems;
  2. to coordinate and promote effective international cooperation among the national pathophysiological societies and individual researchers working on pathophysiological problems;
  3. to organize every four years international pathophysiological congresses, and symposia in intervening years ;
  4. to publish the international journal Pathophysiology;
  5. to promote and develop modern training programs in pathophysiology for medical, allied health, and biomedical scientists.

 

III Membership

Article 3

      The following can become ISP members:

  1. scientists from any discipline;
  2. national pathophysiological societies, other groups or institutions that promote the science of pathophysiology;
  3. Honorary Members.

 

IV. Rights and Duties of the Society Members:

Article 4

      The Society members have the rights:

  1. to take part in and submit reports at congresses, and symposia convened by the Society;
  2. to submit for publication the results of their research in the congress materials and in the international journal Pathophysiology;
  3. to put forward proposals to improve Society's activities and to participate and vote at the ISP General Assembly;
  4. to be elected to the governing bodies, commissions and committees of the Society.

 

Article 5

      By decision of the Executive Committee certain members of the Society can be exempted from paying their membership dues.

Article 6

      The duties of the Society members are as follows:

a) active participation in the Society;
b) upholding and adhering to the principles of the Constitution;
c) regular payment of membership dues.

 

VI. General Assembly

Article 8

      The General Assembly is the supreme body of the International Society for Pathophysiology. It is a general meeting of the ISP members and performs the following functions:

  1. reviews and approves reports presented by the President, Secretary General and Treasurer;
  2. examines and approves the policies and programs of the Society;
  3. approves the Constitution of the Society and any amendments made to it;
  4. elects the Council of Society;
  5. elects the Honorary Members of the Society;
  6. decides the site of International Congress of Pathophysiology;
  7. dissolves or terminates the Society.

 

      In any session of the General Assembly , one?half of the ISP members present shall constitute a quorum. In case of tie the vote of the chairperson decides. In Constitutional matters in the two thirds majority is, however, required.

 

VII. Council

Article 9

      The Council of the Society is formed by scientists who have made substantial contributions to the development of pathophysiological science from different regions of the world. Members of the Council shall be elected by the General Assembly. Number of Council Members shall be determined by the General Assembly. A member, except the Editor of the international journal Pathopysiology, should normally serve only two successive periods on the same function on the Council.

Article 10

      The Council of the Society is to perform the following functions:

  1. to examine and evaluate the scientific and organizational activities of the Society;
  2. to elect the President, the President Elect (President of the next ISP congress), two Vice Presidents, a Secretary General, a Treasurer and an Editor of the international journal Pathophysiology;
  3. to elect, when necessary, new members to the Executive Committee;
  4. to appoint the International Program Committee for each Congress;
  5. to establish Commissions in different fields of pathopysiology;
  6. to propose amendments to the Constitution of the Society up on recommendation by the Executive Committee;
  7. to elect a Nominating Committee;
  8. to determine the annual fees of ISP.

      When either a Secretary General or a Treasurer is elected, his/her predecessor shall continue in office until 31 December following the election unless decided otherwise .
      Scientists who have made significant contributions in pathophysiology can be elected to Honorary Membership of the International Society for Pathophysiology. ISP can have one Honorary President.
      Collective (societies or groups) and individual members are elected by the Executive Committee. Honorary Members shall be elected by the General Assembly on recommendation by the Council.

 

VIII. Executive Committee

Article 11

      The members of the Executive Committee are: President, President Elect, Past President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary General, and Treasurer. The Editor of the international journal Pathophysiology who is nominated by the Executive Committee and accepted by the publisher is also a member of the Executive Committee.

 

Article 12

      The Executive Committee is the legal representative of the Society and holds and administers the property, funds and affairs of the Society.

      The Executive Committee has the following functions:

  1. to act as the executive body of the Society between congresses;
  2. to prepare matters to the Council and the General Assembly;
  3. to maintain relations with other international societies and associations and to participate in organizing, jointly with them, scientific conferences, symposia, etc.;
  4. to develop the budget of the Society and to control and monitor expenditures;
  5. to propose Council members to the General Assembly;
  6. to nominate candidates for Honorary membership.

 

Article 13

      The President of the Society supervises all activities of the Council and the Executive Committee of the Society. In case the President is not able to do it, the President Elect performs these duties.

 

IX. Finances

Article 14

      The budget of the Society is derived from dues paid by both collective and individual members of the Society, and by sponsor and individual contributions. The fiscal year of the Society is from 1 January to 31 December inclusive. The Treasurer must provide the report to the Executive Committee and the Council every year.

Article 15

      Membership dues are paid by collective and individual members. Collective membership dues are paid by the national societies, other groups and institutions. The amount of membership dues shall be determined by the Council of the Society. Memberships are renewable and dues payable as of 1 January, all new members shall be liable for their dues for the ensuing year on the 1 January after their election.
      In event of dissolution or termination of the Society, title to and possession of all the property of the Society shall pass forthwith to such organization dedicated to similar purpose as the General Assembly of the Society shall deem best qualified to carry on the functions of the Society.

 

V. Governing Bodies

Article 7

      Activities of the International Society for Pathophysiology are managed and supervised by

  1. the General Assembly;
  2. the Council;
  3. the Executive Committee.

      The Society shall also use Commissions and Committees to promote research in different fields of pathophysiology, when the need arises.

X. Location of the Headquarters

Article 16

      Location of the Headquarters of the Society will be determined be the Council of the International Society for Pathophysiology.
