Prof. Han graduated from Shanghai First Medical College in 1968. Since 1982 he has been worked at Beijing Medical University (became Peking University Health Science Center since 2000) and was promoted full professor in 1990. He worked as a visiting scholar at the Department of Pharmacology, Emory University, USA from 1985 to 1987. He is now professor and Director, Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at Peking University (PKU). Director, Biomedical Interdisciplinary Research Center at PKU. Meanwhile he held the President of PKU Health Science Center. He was elected as a member of Chinese Academy of Science in 1997.
Prof. Han has been majoring research on cardiovascular system and molecular pharmacology for more than 20 years and has got important achievements. He took the lead in verification of the hypothesis that a1-adrenoceptor (a1-AR) contained two subtypes, a1A and a1B, by their different pharmacological characteristics. He established the approach to distinguish these two subtypes and revealed different signal transduction mechanisms between them. The results were published in Nature, Molecular Pharmacology and other international journals and got international recognized. He also proved the existence of the third subtype, a1D-AR in cardiovascular system. Afterwards his study focused on distribution, expression, mediated biological function, regulation, cross-talk with b-adrenoceptors, and pathophysiological alterations of different a1-AR subtypes in heart and blood vessels. The results are of important values in exploring the physiological and pathophysiological significance of existence of the multiple subtypes of a1-AR in cardiovascular system.
Recently he was interested in the study of complexity and single molecular biology. His research work focuses on the net-work control and integrity of gene expressing and signaling of the cardiac adrenoceptor subtypes. He has created a single molecular imaging model in living cells.
He has received many top scientific awards in China, including the National Natural Sciences Award, First Class Award from Ministry of Education, HLHL Award, etc. He has published more than 270 scientific papers. Among them over 70 papers were published in international journals. The papers have been cited for over 1800 times by SCI searched journals. The paper published in Nature in 1987 has been cited for more than 780 times.
Prof. Han was elected President of the International Society for Pathophysiology at the 5th ISP Congress in Beijing. |
